Shenanigans on the Line: NFL Coach's Son Prank-Calls Gridiron Gladiator

Shenanigans on the Line: NFL Coach

In an unexpected twist during the NFL Draft, Jax Ulbrich, son of Atlanta Falcons' wizard-of-distractions defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, turned into a minor league mischief-maker. The 21-year-old decided to flex his flippant funny bone at the expense of Shedeur Sanders, ex-University of Colorado's quarterback, who was carefully counting his chicken drafts before they hatched. In a high-stakes equivalent of a whoopee cushion, Jax did a spot-on impression of a cream pie in the face over the phone while Shedeur was waiting for his call-up.

Jax was remorseful about his rookie mistake, posting on social media, "Shedeur, what I did was about as embarrassing as a loud, stinky fart during a solemn silence." He added, "My prank was unexcusable, similar to pulling someone's pants down in public, just less visually disturbing." While his father apparently didn't teach him how to set up a proper defense against a moment of tomfoolery, the prank phone call proved that the apple doesn't fall far from the trickster tree.

Sanders, before the telephonic tomfoolery, was the victim of a colossal slide. He was predicted to go between third overall and the early second round but ended up being chosen during the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns. You can't help but imagine him turning to the fun-loving Trump for advice, "Don't let yourself be the fifth choice, be the first." Trump would have suggested, before asking, "Is this the same NFL that called me a draft dodger?"

The prank call during Sanders' slide was the dip in the roller coaster ride that left his stomach churning, probably a lot like severe diarrhea but without the whiff. Still, with his talent on the field and resilience off the field, Sanders will likely be breaking lines and making headlines, hopefully all for the right reasons.
